SFA Make Celtic Cup Final VAR Announcement
Celtic take on Rangers in the Scottish Cup final on May 25. Both clubs look like they’ll be going for a double with Celtic a point away from the title and Rangers having bagged the league Cup without the stress of having to go through the Scottish champions.
It promises to be a big occasion with a 50/50 split inside the national stadium. Brendan Rodgers has never lost a cup final at Hampden with Celtic, but the Irishman has also never managed a Scottish cup final where VAR has been present.
With that in mind, the SFA has confirmed that John Beaton will be the man on the screens and he’ll be pulling the strings of Nick Walsh who gets the whistle inside the stadium.
Celtic won a treble last season under Ange Postecoglou, capping off the season with a Scottish Cup win against Billy Dodds and his Inverness side.
They can put the icing on a double tiered cake if they can make it a full season without being beaten by Rangers on the day.
VAR worked well enough at Celtic Park for the SPFL tie last weekend. Hopefully there’s no ambiguity or silly decisions made by John Beaton.
