The 2024 MLB season officially came to a close last night. The Los Angeles Dodgers came back from a 5-0 deficit to defeat the New York Yankees in Game 5 to celebrate their 2nd World Series title in the last 5 seasons. To say that it was an underdog story or surprise couldn’t be farther from the truth considering the Dodgers were the favorite to win the World Series before Opening Day, throughout the regular season, and before the postseason started. That usually doesn’t happen due to the unpredictability of baseball, but with Shohei Ohtani, Mookie Betts and Freddie Freeman at the top of the order, the Dodgers defied the odds and captured the Commissioner’s Trophy.

It’s a little early to look at the 2025 MLB season since there’s Football, basketball, and hockey happening right now, but that’s what the way-too-early predictions are for! Here are the odds for every team to win the World Series in 2025, a preview of the upcoming season, and my way-too-early best bet. You’ll also be able to find our experts’ MLB picks for all the big Games next season, after they went 69-59 on best bets in 2024!

2025 MLB offseason and free agency

There’s going to be a lot of movement in the offseason. Before we can even get to Opening Day in 2025, there is a huge free agent class that is filled with some very important names. Some of the most important free agents include Juan Soto, Alex Bregman, Anthony Santander, Teoscar Hernandez, Willy Adames, Christian Walker, Pete Alonso, and we haven’t even gotten the pitchers yet. Starters like Corbin Burnes, Blake Snell, Max Fried, Jack Flaherty, Justin Verlander and more could be finding a new home this offseason. The landscape of the MLB could drastically change with some of these free-agent signings, but it’s clear that the Dodgers, Yankees, Braves and Phillies are bringing back the most talent to prepare for another postseason run.

2025 MLB World Series Best Bet: San Diego Padres (+1500)

The value with the San Diego Padres is unbelievable. The Padres were one win away from defeating the Dodgers in the NLDS but a slump hit the San Diego offense at the worst time and caused their season to come to an end. In my opinion, if the Padres had won the NLDS, I think they would have beaten the Mets in the NLCS to advance to the World Series. Fortunately for the Padres, they are returning nearly everyone. Manny Machado, Fernando Tatis Jr., Luis Arraez, Xander Bogaerts and Jake Cronenworth are all under contract for 2025. The only free agents are Jurickson Profar, Martin, Perez, Tanner Scott and Kyle Higashioka, while Ha-Seong Kim has a mutual option.

In the starting rotation, the core of Dylan Cease, Yu Darvish and Michael King will return in 2025. The only bad news is Joe Musgrove underwent Tommy John surgery and will not pitch in 2025. If the Padres can add one more starting pitcher and keep the bullpen intact, it’s going to be the same Padres team but even stronger in 2025.
