Celtic returned to action over the weekend after the international break, much like all of their remaining UEFA Champions League opponents.

The Hoops are preparing to take on Club Brugge on matchday five of the league phase this Wednesday. The Belgians perfectly prepared for the tie on Saturday.

Indeed, Nicky Heyen’s men put St. Truiden to the sword in an all-action 7-0 victory. Greek frontman Christos Tzolis scored four goals as Brugge romped to a memorable triumph. They are now in fine fettle ahead of Wednesday’s match at Celtic Park.

Disappointing Draws

Stalemates were a key theme among Celtic’s other remaining European opponents at the weekend.

Dinamo Zagreb, whom the Hoops face on matchday five, played out a goalless draw with Rijeka on Saturday to remain third in the Croatian top flight.

Elsewhere, in Switzerland, despite leading 1-0 for the majority of the match, Young Boys failed to beat Luzern. The home side equalised with just over 10 to play.

Finally, we turn our attention to Aston Villa, who failed to beat Crystal Palace at home in the English Premier League. Ross Barkley eventually earned a point for the hosts in a topsy-turvy clash.

Villa, who play Juventus midweek on matchday five, haven’t won any of their last six, with their last victory coming on October 22nd.

Unai Emery’s men will undoubtedly pick up before Celtic visit Villa Park, but for now, the Hoops’ sole focus is on Brugge and Wednesday’s blockbuster showdown.
