Why Dedryck Boyata is Warning His Brugge Teammates Ahead of Celtic Trip
Dedryck Boyata is warning his Club Brugge teaMMAtes about the famous Celtic Park European atmosphere ahead of Wednesday night’s match because many of them have never experienced it before.
The big defender is gutted to miss the clash after falling out with his club’s management and being banished from the first team.
Boyata spent four successful years with Celtic, during which he made 135 appearances in all competitions and won a decade of trophies.
The now 33-year-old departed Glasgow in 2019 upon the expiry of his contract and signed for Hertha Berlin in the Bundesliga.
He now finds himself at Club Brugge, where he hasn’t played comPetitively since February 4th this year.
That hasn’t stopped Boyata from taking a keen interest in Wednesday’s match. Indeed, ahead of it, he will warn his teaMMAtes about the raucous Parkhead atmosphere because few of them have experienced it before: “It’s going to be a tough Game for Brugge on Wednesday,” he said [MailSport via RecordSport].
“It will be new for a lot of players here – especially the first 10 minutes at Celtic Park.
“It’s going to be very intimidating. But it’s two great teams and Celtic have been doing well in the Champions League.
“They beat Leipzig in the last game which was a great result. I can tell my Brugge team-mates what it’s like at Celtic but until you’ve been there and experienced it – it’s difficult to explain.
“Even as a Celtic player, that stadium still gets to you every time. That’s what I felt when I was there.
“Even though you’ve experienced it before, those first 10 minutes can be very intimidating. Knowing you’re a Celtic player, at least it’s FOR you.
“But to be playing against it? I’ve never had that, so I can only imagine what it’s like. So I can tell them. But so many players over the years have gone there and spoken about the atmosphere.”
Although Celtic are rightly confident ahead of Wednesday’s Game, Brugge should be taken seriously.
They are vastly experienced at Champions League level and have made almost as good a start to the league phase as the Bhoys.
If their 1-0 win over Aston Villa last time out in Europe didn’t catch the eye, their 7-0 thumping of St. Truiden yesterday certainly did.
Kick-off on Wednesday is at 8pm, and perhaps because Boyata has fallen out with the management at Brugge, he might be supporting his old team.
