World War II, US Coast Guard veteran Louie Dolce joined the “100 Club” on April 24 2024.

The day started quietly for Dolce awaking at the Rhode Island Veterans Home. However, the rest of day was festive for Dolce after being picked up by his escort with the Italian American War Veterans of the US.

Louie in tears from the excitement at Pleasant Valley Elementary School in Smithfield

Dolce would be overwhelmed with the greetings and hundreds of cards that he would receive at Pleasant View Elementary School in Smithfield, Rhode Island. The school children same patriotic songs to Louie, and of course, Happy Birthday. The children lined up on the sidewalk to shake Dolce’s hand and to wish him their best wishes on his 100th.

After the festivities at the school Dolce was escorted to Roma, on Atwells Ave, in Federal Hill – one of Dolces favorite spots to go to. At Roma, Dolce would enjoy the calzones and the pizza, followed by an Italian birthday cake layered with cream and fruit.

Rhode Island celebrities would soon arrive!

Louie with NE Patriot shirt sent from Kraft family, with Gene Valicenti presenting

First was Gene Valicenti, morning radio talk show host for WPRO-AM radio, and news anchor for WJAR, NBC, Channel 10. Gene  presented Louie with a WJAR hat and a water tumbler from WJAR. Gene also presented Louie with a birthday package from Robert Kraft, owner of the New England Patriots.

In the box was birthday cards from Josh Kraft and Hall of Famer, Andre Tippett, who Dolce met two years ago at an event that the Krafts were hosting.

Gene also presented Dolce a football jersey from the Krafts. The shirt had number 100 and Dolce Sr.

After that it was a Rhode Island legend who arrived, retired Judge Frank Caprio, also known for his show Caught In Providence, to give his birthday wishes. The judge gave Louie Happy Birthday wishes, and also recognized two other World War II veterans in attendance, Roger, 99, and Caster 102.

He reminded them that they were part of the greatest generation and that our freedom would not exist if it was not for that generation that answered the call and was willing to give all.

After Roma, Dolce had his final birthday celebration at Perella’s Ristorante, in Warren, Rhode Island. Soon the room would be filled with Dolce’s friends and family. Dolce was teary-eyed so many came out to wish him their best on his special day.

Louie with his special birthday meal Spaghetti and Red Clam Sauce

The Italian buffet included chicken parmigiana, ziti, homemade rigatoni, and Perellas veal and peas, and while all that was prepared for the attendees, that was not the case for Dolce. Owner Lou Perella prepared Louie’s favorite dish, spaghetti with clam sauce.

Happy Birthday, Louie from RINEWSTODAY – and and all of Rhode Island. God bless, Godspeed.
