Our review of BTS’ new variety show Are You Sure?!
The show is similar to the other Travel docuseries done by BTS V, In The Soop. But, that doesn’t take away from its Entertainment factor. It’s a great mood booster and guaranteed to make you laugh.
The show takes us back to July 14 2023, the day Jungkook performed his song Seven live on the show Good Morning America. Jungkook was joined by Jimin, who flew to the US to join his groupmate for the short trip. It was predominantly Jimin’s idea to expand on a trip together before their inevitable deployment into the South Korean Military, and the result: A series fans could enjoy while they conducted their mandatory Military service. Thoughtful Jimin as always!
After finishing his Good Morning America performance, Jungkook joined Jimin, and they went out to eat, followed by some clothes shopping. The duo then headed to a beautiful waterbody, where they undertook some kayaking. After an eventful day, they reached their trailer on the outskirts of NYC, where they lay their heads for the night. But even the night was full of surprises — I’ll spare you the spoilers for now, but let’s just say unexpected hiccups are one of the main attractions of the show.
The next day, the duo went trekking. While Jimin opted to relax in the car, Jungkook chose to ride a Harley Davidson. After a tiring trek spent battling loads of mosquitoes, Jikook enjoyed a luxury yacht ride to unwind and relax. They ate, took naps on the boat, then reached their cottage at night after picking up groceries from a nearby Walmart.
Jungkook took charge of cooking and whipped up his version of carbonara for dinner. The following day, they both slept in, especially Jimin. After waking up, they made another trip to Walmart to buy a sponge and some more food. They ended their American trip with a delightful dinner at a restaurant with a fantastic view.
Spoilers ahead!
Best Moments of Are You Sure?!
The Shin-chan Crayon Style
At one point, Jimin suggested they should name their episodes like Shin-chan episodes are named, and say We’re Travelling. From there, they got the idea to divide the episodes into parts, dubbing it like the popular Japanese animated show.
Failed plans to meet
One of the most relatable parts of the documentary is when Jimin mentions he often talks to V and they plan to meet, but it never works out. Most adults can relate to that, can’t we?
Jungkook’s boat flipped over
When Jimin and Jungkook went kayaking, they had a trusty instructor who helped Jimin into the boat, but JK managed to get in by himself. Just a few seconds later, Jungkook’s boat flipped over. And to say that the moment is hilarious is an understatement. But after being pulled out by lifesavers, Jungkook’s first question was, “Wait, where’s my phone? As long as my phone is okay, I’m good.” Like us, Jimin could not stop himself from laughing. They’re best friends for a reason!
JK’s water curse
After suffering rain during his GMA show, followed by being flipped over at the lake while kayaking, Jungkook concluded that he must be cursed by water. When it rained again during their Travels, Jimin agreed it was all JK’s fault. There’s nothing like blaming your friend for a spate of bad luck!
Video calling V and Suga
While eating dinner on the first day, Jimin and Jungkook reminisced about an old Vlive session with V. So, Jungkook video-called him, sharing that they were shooting a show and would ride his motorcycle the next day before abruptly ending the call. V’s beeped-out reply certainly hinted at some colourful language, adding to the hilarity of the situation.
Jimin then called Suga, treating us to their usual banter.
Jimin is hurt by JK
During their stay in the trailer, Jungkook accidentally struck Jimin’s nose while sleeping. Jimin stayed up all night by the fridge, icing it. To further sour his night, he also found himself combating a stomach bug that same evening.
Praying to the stone tower
In the middle of the night following their first day on the trip, Jimin realised that he had caught a stomach bug. After an eventful night, he woke up still tired and sick in the morning. Crew members rushed to find some medicines for him. After giving him the medicine, JK devoted his time to building a pretty impressive stone tower. Then he wished upon it for the trip to go smoothly, likewise also wishing to get better.
Naming the show
It was fun watching Jimin and Jungkook brainstorm names for the show. Jungkook suggested Broadway after seeing a signboard, and then Jimin came up with Jungkook and Jimin’s Travel Log, which JK then shortened to JungJi Travel Log.
But when Jimin’s stomach bug acted up on the yacht, Jungkook said, “You were fine until yesterday. Is that right? Are you sure about this?” Jimin’s dramatic response, “Am I sure? This isn’t what I came for!” inspired the final name: Are You Sure?!
Jungkook giving Jimin tips on singing
After dinner on their second night together, Jungkook began pestering Jimin to play his new then-unreleased song. This culminated in a sweet moment of sharing when Jimin played Who for Jungkook, who shared his expertise with his ‘hyung’. If you’ve listened to the final version, it’s clear that Jimin took Jungkook’s tips seriously, making the necessary changes.
Tips to ride a Harley Davidson
Jimin and Jungkook went to Walmart to buy a sponge and food and took Jungkook’s Harley for the trip. Jungkook cautioned Jimin about the hot bike body and advised him to spread his legs. By then, Jimin had already learned his lesson. Then together, they came to the conclusion that Harley riders spread their legs because it’s hot, not because it looks cool.
