Celtic are pushing hard to sign USA international centre-back Auston Trusty ahead of tomorrow evening’s transfer deadline.

Fans are rightly frustrated the club has taken this long in the window to truly spring into life, but they are working on several fronts to get deals done.

A club-record £10m bid was yesterday submitted for Augsburg midfielder Arne Engels, with the Hoops also looking to bring Trusty to Glasgow from English Championship side Sheffield United.

The Bhoys yesterday saw their initial £5m bid for the 26-year-old rejected, but soon returned to the table with an improved offer.

Now, it has been reported by RecordSport that there could be work permit issues should a deal get done.

Indeed, they state that Celtic would need to re-apply for a visa for Trusty should he sign for the club. Getting the application accepted shouldn’t be an issue, but the timing reportedly could be as we hurtle towards Friday’s deadline.

It remains to be seen whether the formal Arsenal man will make the move north, but a £6m fee would likely be enough to provoke Sheffield into a sale, per RecordSport.

Celtic have the cash in the bank, but whether they think Trusty is worth such a price tag is a different question.
