Report: Celtic Battling EPL Clubs to Sign Teenage Duo
Celtic are battling English Premier League clubs West Ham United and Southampton to sign young Airdrie duo Cole and Dylan Williams, according to a report from The Scottish Sun.
The twins were previously on the Scottish Premiership champions’ books but moved to the Diamonds, where they have risen through the ranks.
Indeed, the Williams brothers have been on the bench for Airdrie’s first team on three separate occasions this campaign and have starred for the club’s under-18s.
Both midfielders, the duo can leave Airdrie because they are on short-term contracts, and Celtic are keen.
West Ham and Southampton, however, reportedly lead the race as the riches of the English top-flight shine through.
The Hoops have lost several of their own talents to clubs south of the border, such as Ben Doak and Aidan Borland, and they could lose out on signing another two as the EPL comes calling.
News of Celtic’s interest in the midfielders comes amidst the B team’s positive start to the season.
The youngsters are fourth in the Lowland League, three points behind leaders East Kilbride. They have six points from their opening four UEFA Youth League Games, too, and are in pole position to make the knockout stages.
Stephen McManus isn’t doing a bad job with the side this season, as several talents continually look to break into the first team.
