Thunder vs Spurs Prediction, Picks, and Odds for Tonight’s NBA Game

The San Antonio Spurs host the Oklahoma City Thunder in NBA action tonight at Frost Bank Center in NBA Cup West Group B action. Victor Wembanyama is doubtful for San Antonio, which is why my Thunder vs. Spurs predictions and NBA picks expect Julian Champagnie to pick up the slack on the boards.

Thunder vs Spurs prediction

My best bet
Julian Champagnie Over 5.5 rebounds (+130 at bet365)

My analysis
The Oklahoma City Thunder are one of the best teams in the NBA, but they have one significant weakness: rebounding.

With injuries to Chet Holmgren, Isaiah Hartenstein, and Jaylin Williams, the Thunder have been forced to play with some extremely small lineups and rank dead-last in the league in rebounding rate (45.2%).

Meanwhile, it looks like the San Antonio Spurs will be without superstar center Victor Wembanyama for the second straight game due to a knee injury. Without the 7-foot-4 phenom and his 10.5 rebounds per game, there will be more rebounds to go around for others.

That includes San Antonio forward Julian Champagnie, who is averaging 5.3 rpg and has pulled down six plus boards in six of his last 10 contests. When you also factor in OKC's blazing-fast pace, we should see an up-tempo contest which will lead to more shot attempts and rebounding opportunities for both sides.

Julian Champagnie Over 5.5 rebounds

Thunder -9.5

Zach Collins Over 12.5 points

+1,000 at bet365

The Thunder are 11-3 and have an NBA-best net rating of +11.7, while the Spurs are a below-average team even with Wembanyama. Without Wemby and his Game-changing presence on both ends of the floor, they might have the least talented lineup in the league.

It's tough to lay 9.5 points on a visiting team, but this is a short trip for the Thunder who should be well-rested since they had yesterday off and haven't played on the road since November 6.

Without Wembanyama in the lineup on Saturday, Zach Collins scored 20 points in just 26 minutes. He might not be efficient tonight, but he should see plenty of shot attempts as the Spurs try to take advantage of an undersized Thunder frontcourt.

Thunder vs Spurs spread and Over/Under analysis

  • OKC opened at -6.5, but after Wembanyama was downgraded to doubtful, it moved to -8.5 before ticking up even further to 9.5.
  • The total ticked up from 220.5 to 222.5 which is due to just how important Wembanyama is to San Antonio's defense.
  • The Thunder are fresh off a close loss to the Mavericks but are 11-3 straight up and 9-4-1 against the spread this year.
  • Without Wembanyama, the Spurs lost 110-93 to the Mavs on Saturday, but they had gone 5-5 SU and ATS in their previous 10 games.
