After it was confirmed that key attack-minded midfielder Xavi Simons will miss RB Leipzig’s trip to face Celtic next week, boss Marco Rose has been hit with another injury blow.

The Red Bulls came from behind to emphatically beat Freiburg 3-1 on Saturday and remain behind only Bayern Munich at the Bundesliga summit on goal difference.

Rose’s men were 1-0 down at the break, though, and were forced into a surprising half-time substitute.

Indeed, goalkeeper Peter Gulasci, who has been capped 58 times by Hungary, came off injured. 22-year-old stopper Marten Vandevoordt came on in his place, making a surprise debut.

According to his manager, Rose, Gulasci will now definitely miss Leipzig’s DFP-Pokal tie against St. Pauli on Tuesday night and is a doubt for upcoming matches against Borussia Dortmund and Celtic.

He said [Glasgow Times]: “We still have to wait for the exact diagnosis. He [Gulasci] wanted to try again after the break, but it didn’t work.

“When he left the pitch he immediately realised that it was pointless.”

Although Leipzig remains unbeaten domestically this season, they haven’t started their Champions League campaign well at all.

Without points in their opening three league phase matches, the Germans come to Glasgow next Tuesday desperate for a result.

Celtic have a respectable four points so far and will see next Tuesday as an opportunity to strike Leipzig when they are down.

It will be an arduous Game for the Bhoys, but they can take confidence from the fact they are unbeaten at home in their last three European Games against Slovan Bratislava, Feyenoord, and Atletico Madrid.
