Peter Vindahl Jensen’s strengths and suitability for Celtic talked up as Bhoys enter negotiations

Celtic are down the line in their goalkeeper search as targets continue to emerge as Brendan Rodgers looks to replace Joe Hart.

The 37-year-old bowed out of Football with a domestic double; however, he is no longer at Parkhead, making the acquisition of his successor a major priority.

Yesterday, we told how Sparta Prague stopper Peter Vindahl Jensen had emerged as one of the ‘key targets’ Celtic are looking to get over the line this summer, with Brendan Rodgers mooted to be a big admirer of the Dane.

It is thought that a significant transfer fee may be needed to get the 26-year-old to swap Prague for Glasgow; however, the Bhoys are locked in negotiations over a potential deal.

This term, the 26-year-old has made 42 appearances across all competitions, keeping 15 clean sheets in the process [Transfermarkt].

Now, one former Scottish Premiership star has shed light on why he would fit the bill for Celtic as a marquee summer signing.

Tomas Cerny on Celtic target Peter Vindahl Jensen

Speaking to The Celtic Way, former Hamilton Academical goalkeeper Tomas Cerny has given the lowdown on why buying Jensen would be a sound piece of Business for the Bhoys, citing his shot-stopping ability and composure on the ball as two central agreeable attributes with Rodgers’ style.

He stated: “Peter Vindahl Jensen would certainly suit Brendan Rodgers’ style of play at Celtic. He is a very good shot-stopper. He is also very good with his feet and that is a big plus point for any goalkeeper. That’s the attribute that will be attracting Rodgers the most. That appears to be the style and type of goalkeeper that Rodgers will be looking for and Vindahl Jensen certainly ticks that box.

“I do not doubt that Vindhal could handle a move to Celtic and cope with the pressure of playing in big European games as well as against Rangers based on his achievements and performances with Sparta Prague. The fans are also demanding at that club and he handled it all well.

Celtic are looking in the right direction for new targets

Celtic know they have to explore the market to find value for money; however, it appears on this occasion that they have done their due diligence and are trying to strike a smart deal.

This will be important as the summer goes on, as Rodgers knows shrewd additions are needed if the Bhoys have any chance of making a splash in the new Champions League format.

Of course, it is unclear if Celtic will be able to finalise an agreement for Jensen’s signature; however, they are looking in the right direction, and hopefully, there is plenty more to come on the recruitment front.
