Celtic and Genk are reportedly nearing an agreement to transfer Hyeon Gyu Oh to Belgium, according to reports from Belgian media [Sacha Tavoliero]. The journalist describing it as ‘only a matter of time’. This development has sparked significant speculation about Celtic’s plans for a new striker.

With Celtic scheduled to leave for the USA for their pre-season tour, the timing of this move could indicate that the club is ready to bring in Oh’s replacement. Adam Idah, who had a successful loan spell at Parkhead, has been widely tipped to make a return to Celtic this summer. Fans are now wondering if Idah will be the one to fill Oh’s boots and join the squad on their flight to the States.

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers added fuel to the speculation on Thursday, stating, he expects two new faces in the squad by the time they take off for the states.

He said: “I mentioned before about getting at least a couple in before we go to America. That’s still the idea.

“We all know we lost three players and they were very important players for us. That alone demonstrates we need to make that right and we also have to improve.”

The departure of Oh will leave a gap in Celtic’s attacking options, but the potential return of Idah could provide the boost fans are looking for after a very dry summer on the transfer front.

Celtic have a lot of work to do between now and the end of the window.

For Oh, if this does get over the line, the striker didn’t quite look comfortable in a Celtic jersey but we think there’s every chance he could flourish somewhere else — it happens a lot in Football.
