Non-Negotiables: 7 Luxury Watches Suitable for Every Character on The Bear
The Bear Season 3 is here and so are all the chaotic characters from Jeremy Allen White’s Carmy to Ayo Edebiri’s Chef Sydney. Considering the relentless nature of their job and the fact that “Every second counts”, we wonder which watch would Carmy pick on his “non-negotiables” list of accessories. Here are some luxury watches we’d love to see on The Bear.
Kicking off its third season today, The Bear has enthralled audiences around the globe and given PTSD to many in the food service industry. While casual fans revel in the stress and drama of the kitchen, chefs find that it hits a little close to home. But that doesn’t mean they don’t think it’s an entertaining show. With the third season now finally streaming after a long wait, we step into the kitchen and ask ourselves what the staff of The Bear would be wearing on their wrists. Here are some luxury watches we’d love to see on The Bear.
Luxury watches that characters from The Bear would wear
Carmy: TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph Tourbillon
While this watch may seem out of place in the early days of The Bear, it certainly fits right into the restaurant’s new fine dining aesthetic. But with Carmy’s (Jeremy Allen White) fine dining background, it makes sense that he’d own this TAG Heuer Carrera before he got The Bear. The chronograph and tourbillon are perfect for him not just because they make the clock more accurate but Carmy being Carmy likes to be in control, for better or for worse. That green also symbolises strength, which is definitely Carmy after everything he’s gone through—and everything else he’s going to go through this season.

Sydney: Seiko Presage Arita Porcelain Dial
Sydney (Ayo Edebiri) is the epitome of “started from the bottom now we’re here”, and so it makes sense that her timepiece is nothing too fancy but certainly nothing too rugged now that The Bear is taking off. Seiko is a great entry-level luxury watch brand, and like her, is quite unconventional since it’s a Japanese and not a Swiss brand. The watch is suited perfectly for the kitchen with its Arita porcelain dial, a subtle reminder of the white dishes in the kitchen. Aside from that though, it also reflects her being one of the most highly valued members of the kitchen. Let’s be honest, if Carmy was the only one there, he would run the kitchen to the ground. Sydney is the one that keeps the balance.

Richie: Patek Philippe Calatrava
When you buy a Patek Philippe, you buy one not for yourself but to pass it on to the next generation. We could see Richie (Ebon Moss-Bachrach) buying one not just because it’s a classic timepiece that looks good with his suit when service rolls around, but he probably bought it also eventually to pass it on to his beloved daughter, Eva. This dress watch is perfect for the restaurant manager of The Bear, and though it may cost a hefty price, Richie probably took advice from one of his favourite singers, Taylor Swift, when deciding to buy it: “Baby, just say yes.”

Marcus: Panerai Luminor Marina
The Bear’s own pastry chef has an intimidating figure but has a heart of gold. For someone like him, the Panerai Luminor is the perfect fit. The watch’s large numbers and somewhat imposing body still exude class and sophistication, which is exactly how Marcus (L-Boy) makes his pastry concoctions. We can only dream of tasting that chocolate cake and doughnut of his.

Liza: NOMOS Glasshütte Ahoi Neomatik Siren Red
The once set-in-her-ways feisty tia of the kitchen deserves a timepiece to match that, and so we go with the NOMOS Glasshütte Ahoi Neomatik Siren Red. This watch is made by an unconventional watch brand and that flash of red is a great symbol of Tina’s (Liza Colón-Zayas) fierceness and tenacity. It’s simple, sleek, elegant, and fitting for someone who’s become more refined but is still feisty as ever.

Neil: Breitling Avenger
Lovable Neil (Matty Matheson) may have started out as the restaurant’s handyman, and he still is, but when he donned that suit last season, we’re hoping he grows out of his handyman role. As such, the Breitling Avenger, a watch built for pilots and a timepiece that’s for someone who’s very technical, is the watch we think would be fitting for him. Is it out of his price range? Perhaps, but someone from the staff could easily buy it for him as thank you for all he’s done. He deserves it after all, especially when he’s the reason the restaurant passed the fire suppression test last season.

Sugar: Longines Conquest
The co-owner of The Bear and one of the three Berzatto siblings, Sugar (Abby Elliott) was reluctant at first to take on The Bear and dismissed Carmy’s ambitions to transform it into a fine dining venue. She has since come around and is an integral part of the team, taking on the practical side of things outside the kitchen. The Longines Conquest, while practical, is still elegant much like she is. She has no qualms in getting down to Business with Carmy and Richie but knows when to be graceful, making the Conquest the perfect watch for her and also the best pick among The Bear watches.
