Star defensive end Nick Bosa has been issued a hefty fine by the NFL after donning a ‘MAGA’ hat on the field at Levi’s Stadium following a San Francisco 49ers game.

On the heels of the 49ers’ 30-24 win over the Dallas Cowboys on October 27, Bosa crashed NBC reporter Melissa Stark’s postGame interview with quarterback Brock Purdy, tight end George Kittle and running back Isaac Guerendo while wearing a “Make America Great Again” hat. The pass rusher and vocal Donald Trump supporter pointed to the slogan sprawled across his forehead before rushing out of camera frame – an act that violated the league’s policy against displaying personal messages.

Per rule 5, section 4, article 8 of the NFL rule book, “Players are prohibited from wearing, displaying, or otherwise conveying personal messages either in writing or illustration, unless such message has been approved in advance by the League office. This includes any items that are visible to the stadium and television audience, including during postGame interviews in the locker room or on the field.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the NFL fined Bosa $11,255 for the stunt – mere days after he predicted that such a punishment might come. Speaking to reporters on the heels of Trump’s resounding win over Kamala Harris in the 2024 Presidential Election, the 27-year-old conceded that he expected to be fined but asserted “it was well worth it,” adding: “if [the fine] comes, it comes.

Following the public display on ‘Sunday Night Football,’ Bosa refrained from discussing the incident further during a postgame press conference. Im not gonna talk too much about it, but I think its an important time, he said while wearing a different hat. “It’s definitely a little easier nowadays, but no, I don’t feel too inclined to do that. It’s just a different climate.”

When pressed further by members of the media on why he decided to wear the hat, Bosa provided yet another mum answer. I dont think my position on speaking about it is going to change,” he said on Wednesday. “Clearly the nation spoke and we got what we got.

Asked what he thought of Election Night, Bosa added: “It was fun, it was a good time. [I] stayed up.”

Bosa’s refusal to talk more about his values drew the ire of former ESPN anchor Jemele Hill, who blasted him for not wanting to explain the reasoning behind his political beliefs. Drawing upon Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James’ glowing endorsement of Harris during media availability, she wrote on X: “Oh look, LeBron was asked about a public political statement that he made and he explained IN DETAIL why he did it. Nick Bosa doesnt have the guts to do this.”
