Tennessee Titans ML over Miami Dolphins (+124)

These are a pair of teams that are just miserable at the moment, as Tennessee enters this one still looking for its first win of the season while the Dolphins are reeling from the loss of quarterback Tua Tagovailoa. It just so happens that Tagovailoa’s first replacement was Skylar Thompson, who then got hurt in an ugly loss to the Seahawks in Week 3.

Tyler Huntley has spent the past few seasons as a backup to Lamar Jackson with the Ravens, and he’ll now be thrust into the spotlight this week as the starter. While he is relatively mobile and capable of running the ball somewhat effectively, Huntley certainly isn’t a dynamic athlete or true difference maker in the ground Game and he certainly can’t be trusted to push the ball downfield in the passing Game. On the other side, Tennessee should have won each of its first 2 Games and I don’t think the team is as bad as public perception suggests. Yes, Will Levis has thrown a couple of Games away with boneheaded turnovers — but he is the better quarterback in this matchup and the Titans should also be able to run the ball with Tony Pollard against this beleaguered Miami defense. I’m confident we’ll finally see Tennessee get a win on the board in the 2024 season on Monday Night Football.

If you’re not a fan of either team, I’d probably advise you not to watch this game. Levis’ struggles have been well documented at this point, so we can expect Tennessee’s coaching staff to keep it on the ground as much as possible. Despite having plenty of opportunities, the Titans have yet to top 17 points through 3 games and it looks like the Dolphins are going to be starting a quarterback who is barely familiar with the playbook. Since losing its starting quarterback, Miami has produced just 13 total points over the last 2 weeks and it has been made abundantly clear that the Dolphins’ plethora of weapons are not QB-proof. All signs point to a defensive struggle in this one, so let’s back the under at the current number.

De’Von Achane to score a touchdown (-105)

While I like the Titans to get the outright win on Monday, the Dolphins game script should lean on their ground game. That’s good news for De’Von Achane, as he should be in line to get the primary workload out of the backfield in this game. Just last week, Achane touched the ball 14 times in a negative game script against the Seahawks — who jumped out to a double-digit lead in the opening quarter. This week, as home favorites with a quarterback in Huntley under center that hasn’t touched the field since last January, I expect the Dolphins to lean on Achane early and often…especially if Miami gets down to the red zone.
