NCAAF Bowl best bet, odds & game picks including Georgia & Florida State
After a long and grueling regular season, the college Football postseason is finally here. I’ve gone 6-1 in these bowl season columns so far — bringing me to 31-20 (about 61%) since Week 2. I’ve said all season that some regression was to be expected after we cashed at an unsustainable 63% rate a year ago, but we’ve been rolling in bowl season, so let’s keep that momentum going!
With the holiday season behind us, the third full week of Bowl season is here and we have a compelling slate ahead of us, including a ton of fun games at the Group of 5 and Power 5 level. With Saturday’s games rapidly approaching, here is a look at my best bet for the quartet of games at our disposal. And remember, you can check out all of our NCAAF predictions for picks on all of the action.
Georgia Bulldogs -19 over Florida State Seminoles (-110)
Odds available at BetRivers Sportsbook at time of publishing. Playable to Georgia -21.
In all seriousness, there’s not a number you could hang that would push me in the direction of the Seminoles in the Orange Bowl on Saturday. The biggest storyline in this Game is undoubtedly the opt-outs on the side of Florida State. Mike Norvell’s team barely has enough players to field anything resembling a high-end Power 5 Football team at this point. As of Friday morning, the following starters are going to be missing this Game for the Seminoles: QB Jordan Travis, backup QB Tate Rodemaker, WR Keon Coleman, WR Johnny Wilson, DE Jared Verse, TE Jaheem Bell, RB Trey Benson and many, many more on both sides. This just leaves 3rd string quarterback Brock Glenn to be the quarterback against a Georgia defense that should be licking its chops after seeing what Louisville did in the ACC Championship Game. I see no reason to have any confidence in Glenn and the ‘Noles offense, particularly without any real weapons on the outside.
While this Seminoles team is absolutely decimated on both ends of the ball, Georgia will have most of its best players on the field on Saturday. Brock Bowers will miss this game, but Carson Beck will be under center and Kirby Smart has motivated the entire senior class with the fact that they’ll be the winningest class in program history with a win in this game. And if Georgia shows up with any sort of motivation, there’s no reason to expect Smart and company to take their foot off the gas with the Seminoles potentially looking to join the SEC in future seasons. Let’s back the Bulldogs and hopefully get there with a comfortable winner in South Florida.
