Anthony Edwards lived in the paint in Games 3 and 4. Doing so is part of what led to the national laziness in laughing at Karl-Anthony Towns going 0-for-8 from deep. Instead of the “0-fer,” the world should have focused on the eight open 3-pointers Towns got.

That should have panicked Dallas in Game 4. And, to be fair, Towns did not attempt a three until just six minutes remaining in the third quarter, but no matter how long he waited, defending those looks should have been a defensive priority.

“Inside The NBA” can waste viewer's time by guffawing over a few missed shots on good looks, but all Jason Kidd’s coaching staff should have been concerned with was the good looks.

Instead, Towns got five more good looks from deep — hitting four of them — while Edwards took just seven 3-pointers in the last two games compared to the 19 he launched in Games 1 and 2.

That combination is the best path forward for the Minnesota Timberwolves, and they know it. Even if Kidd tries to adjust, the Dallas Mavericks have no viable defender for Towns on the perimeter. Even if Lively returns, Edwards now has clear evidence of the success that charging into the rim brings Minnesota.

One untapped piece of Edwards’s penetrating drive is then finding Rudy Gobert at the rim. Only Mike Conley has shown a knack for lobs to Gobert. For being the four-time Defensive Player of the Year, Gobert often helps dictate the Timberwolves’ offense.

If Edwards is getting to the rim, then he should either find Gobert for easy buckets or put shots on the rim for Gobert to put back.
