Mavericks make contract extension two days before 2024 NBA Finals
The Dallas Mavericks announced on Tuesday, just two days before their debut in the NBA Finals against the Boston Celtics, the renewal of General Manager Nico Harrison’s contract. Harrison, who assembled a team capable of contending for the championship 13 years after their first and only title, has been instrumental in the franchise’s recent success.
How long is Harrison’s Mavs extension?
The Mavericks confirmed that Harrison’s contract extension is for multiple years, highlighting that under his leadership, the Texas-based team reached the playoffs in two of the last three seasons. Prior to this year’s Finals, the Mavericks made it to the Western Conference Finals in 2022, where they were ultimately defeated by the Golden State Warriors.
Harrison, appointed as the Mavericks’ General Manager in 2021, has been noted for his astute decisions, such as selecting Dereck Lively in the latest draft and acquiring Daniel Gafford and P.J. Washington. The rookie center and the two players acquired from the Charlotte Hornets have bolstered a Mavericks team led by Kyrie Irving and Luka Doncic.
