Mauricio Pochettino the new USMNT manager: salary details and contract length
Mauricio Pochettino has agreed to become the new head coach of the USMNT, say reports.
The Argentine manager will join the United States Men’s National Team, replacing Gregg Berhalter who was relieved of his duties after a poor Copa América saw them crash out at the group stage.
Why did Pochettino leave Chelsea?
US Soccer made it clear that they were in search of a big name appointment to succeed Berhalter, with Jürgen Klopp even linked to the role. However, it seems that the online noise surrounding the German was more in hope than expectation, and now it seems that the US have got their man in Pochettino, with reports naming him a top target from the off.
Pochettino’s most recent job in management came in the Premier League, with Chelsea. However, he was sacked after just one season at the helm in London, with disagreements over Chelsea’s strategy for signing players reportedly at the core of the divide.
In that season, he guided the club to Europe and finished 6th in the Premier League. “Thank you to the Chelsea ownership group and sporting directors for the opportunity,” Pochettino said at the time. “The club is now well positioned to keep moving forward in the Premier League and Europe in the years to come.”
How much is Mauricio Pochettino’s salary as USMNT manager?
As of yet, there are no contract details that have emerged apart from the fact that he is set to lead the team to the 2026 World Cup.
He had recently been linked with the job of England National Team manager, although those rumours now seem all but quashed. The 52-year-old has never managed a national team, and now his first task will be to steady the ship as the USMNT look to bounce back following the car crash Copa América on home soil.
Whether he changes many pieces in the squad or just implements new tactics remains to be seen, although he is known for his tendency to play high-octane Football and a team philosophy that places trust in younger players.
