Manchester United aren't believed to be in a rush to secure teenage midfielder star Kobbie Mainoo to a new contract due to his current deal running up to 2028.

18-year-old Mainoo has recently become a regular starter for his club, enabling him to then earn a senior England call-up to join Gareth Southgate's squad against Brazil and Belgium.

Mainoo last put pen to paper on 9 February 2023 when he had only made one first-team appearance, signing a contract for four years with the option of a further 12 months.

His status has changed massively since then. But the Manchester Evening News has reported that, despite initial talks over a renewal taking place, the club is not in a hurry to hand out a fresh deal. Mainoo himself is not thought to be prioritising a new contract either, with his existing deal already thought to include performance-related incentives.

The midfielder is a graduate of United's youth system, and has made 15 Premier League appearances in his career so far. His first top flight goal, against Wolves in February, was given the Premier League Goal of the Month award and secured the Red Devils to earn a last-minute win.

His meteoric rise has been rapid, first kicking a ball in the Premier League just four months ago. Since an eye-catching performance at Goodison Park during United's 3-0 win over Everton in November, Mainoo has become a non-negotiable for Erik ten Hag on the pitch.

There is set to be a lot of change at Old Trafford in summer, as the team look to bring in new signings and figure out the long-term future of the manager.
