There is a four-way tie for the lead ahead of the third round of the 2024 Zurich Classic of New Orleans, with Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry among the frontrunners going into the team-play tournament’s final two days.

Who leads the Zurich Classic of New Orleans after round two?

Lowry and McIlroy, who is the world No. 2, are at -13 after Friday’s second round at TPC Louisiana in Avondale, Louisiana. They’re joined at the head of the pack by co-leaders Aaron Rai and David Lipsky, Davis Thompson and Andrew Novak, and Ryan Brehm and Mark Hubbard.

The pre-tournament favourites, world No. 5 Xander Schauffle and eighth-ranked Patrick Cantlay, are among a group of six pairings who are one back on -12. Defending champions Nick Hardy and Davis Riley are down in joint 32nd place, having just managed to make the -8 cut on Friday.

What is Saturday’s Zurich Classic format?

Today’s third round will revert to the four-ball format used on day one of the Zurich Classic of New Orleans. Under the four-ball system, both members of each team play their own ball from tee to pin, and the lower score of the two players is used as their total for each hole.
