Lakers Linked To 3-Team Trade For Warriors’ Chris Paul

The Los Angeles Lakers are entering this offseason with an eye on upgrading the point guard position.

D’Angelo Russell is obviously a very talented player, but he isn’t a legitimate third option on a championship-level team and plays far more like a two-guard than anything else.

Chris Paul is coming off a career-worst year with the Golden State Warriors. Both sides want to move on.

A blockbuster trade was floated this week that could solve everyone’s problems.

As noted by Fadeaway World, the 3-team trade would center around Paul and involve the Lakers, Warriors and Orlando Magic.

In this proposed swap the Lakers would get Paul and 2024 second-round pick from the Warriors; Golden State would receive Jonathan Isaac and Anthony Black; and the Magic would land D’Angelo Russell, Gabe Vincent, a 2026 lottery protected first-round pick from the Warriors.

A clear win-win-win for all the teams involved.

Although one squad came out this week and expressed zero interest in adding Russell to the roster, Orlando has consistently held him in fairly high regard. It is the perfect sort of low-stakes situation for the 28-year-old to thrive in, much like he did with the Brooklyn Nets.

As far as the Lakers go, while Paul isn’t what he once was, he does provide steady leadership and point guard play in a legitimate problem area for L.A. Clearly the front office would need to go and get a regular season point guard – but Paul could prove invaluable in the playoffs.

Finally, Golden State just wants to get rid of Paul. They would get two supplementary pieces in return instead of losing him for nothing.

Will this trade ultimately get done? Time will tell. Should it? Absolutely.
