Jerry Jones roasted after Bronny James drafted to Lakers
LeBron James has been playing in the NBA for 21 seasons. That was enough time for him to have a son of his own, raise him, help coach him into a good ball player, and now finally have the chance to play alongside him in the big league with the Los Angeles Lakers.
Bronny James, LeBron’s son, was born four months after LeBron was drafted by the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2004. In the 2024 NBA Draft, Bronny was drafted No. 55 overall to play with the Lakers, and many people accused LeBron of nepotism. Former NBA general manager Bob Myers even said that super agent Rich Paul was calling teams during the draft and telling them not to draft Bronny, or else he would go and play in Australia instead. While we don’t know for sure the veracity of that claim, we all know that LeBron wanted to play with his son, and that it would likely be his last chance to do so and his last career milestone before he retires.
What’s this got to do with Jerry Jones?
Former NFL tight end George Wrightster decided to put these nepotism claims into perspective with a comparison to Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones. Have a look…
In case you’re not familiar somehow, Jerry has been the owner of the Cowboys since 1989 and his two sons Stephen and Jerry Jr. and daughter Charlotte are all three working within the Dallas Cowboys organization. Jerry Jones is one of the most highly criticized NFL owners, and with good reason. The Cowboys haven’t won a title since the ‘90s and as the richest team in the league, it seems Jerry is more concerned with the Cowboys brand than actually winning a Super Bowl.
Jones is unwilling to either sell the team or let anyone else outside of himself and his family members have control over the moves the Cowboys make. In fact, Stephen Jones, the Cowboys’ chief operating officer, vice president, and director of player personnel, has a lot to do with the lack of contract extensions for Dallas’ three best players - Dak Prescott, Micah Parsons, and CeeDee Lamb.
So, while there may well be nepotism going on with LeBron and his kid, it’s small potatoes compared to the Jones family.
