The Bhoys were outstanding from start to finish as they secured their biggest-ever win in Europe’s premier club comPetition.

Liam Scales opened the scoring in the first half with a bullet header before Kyogo Furuhashi was in the right place at the right time to double the Bhoys’ lead early in the second 45.

Arne Engels soon made it 3-0 from the spot. Kevin Wimmer got one back for the visitors, but it turned out to be just a consolation, with Daizen Maeda and Adam Idah adding some gloss to the scoreline.

Celtic were relentless throughout last night. Brendan Rodgers’ team had several top performers, but £11m-man Engels was a key standout.

The Belgian set up Scales for the opener with a teasing corner delivery before remaining cool as ever from the penalty spot.

Post-match, Engels admitted last night was beyond belief and that the home fans were incredible.

He was asked whether his first experience of the Champions League at Celtic Park lived up to his expectations.

“It did more,” he told CeltsAreHere.com.

“The sound at the beginning from the Champions League [anthem] and the crowd was unbelievable. I’d never experienced something like this.

“It really helped. You seen it in the Game also that we get real energy from the crowd. That’s what we love.”

Celtic’s big-money investment in Engels looks to be paying off. The midfielder has slotted seamlessly into the team over the past few Games and stood out.

He still has a long way to go, but things are already looking promising in green and white for the 21-year-old.
