Martin Odegaard injury update: Arsenal captain optimistic after return to training centre
Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard has been one of the Premier League’s brightest stars in recent seasons, helping his side back into the Champions League and establishing themselves as the second-best team in England.
The 25-year-old is a central figure under Mikel Arteta but has been unavailable in recent Games having suffered an ankle injury while on international duty for Norway. In his absence Arsenal have managed a win over Tottenham Hotspur and a creditable point against Man City, but Gunners fans will be desperate to see him back on the field.
Odegaard offered an update on his injury in the programme notes before Wednesday’s Carabao Cup win over Bolton Wanderers.
The Arsenal captain said of his injury: “It was a bad twist to my ankle, and I damaged some ligaments there, but it’s part of football and now I’m just trying to recover as quickly as I can.”
“I’m moving forward, making progress and I’m feeling more positive every day. I’m working hard and my only thought is to get back as soon as possible.”
When will Martin Odegaard be back for Arsenal?
At the time of the injury many Arsenal fans were fearing the worst, wondering how many months they might be without the Norwegian for. However Odegaard appears to be making a swift recovery and he revealed that he’s already back at the team’s practice facility,
“I’m at the Sobha Realty Training Centre basically every day now, working hard and doing everything I can do to get better. I have to be careful not to push it too much, but at the same time do what I can to make sure I come back as strongly and quickly as possible,” Odegaard explained.
That positive outlook backs up comments made by Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta recently. The Spaniard was asked about a possible timeframe on his captain’s return and he suggested that Odegaard could be back in contention after the October international break.
Asked when Odegaard could return, Arteta said: “I think it will be a matter of weeks. How long exactly, I cannot tell you. We might get a surprise, but I think it’s unlikely [he returns before the October international break].”
