Gustaf Lagerbielke has no regrets about his recent Celtic departure despite not yet playing for his new side, FC Twente.

The centre-back joined the Eredivisie club on loan in the final week of the summer transfer window.

Hoops manager Brendan Rodgers publicly stated the defender wasn’t in his plans for the new campaign, so a subsequent temporary move was organised.

In the Netherlands so far, though, Lagerbielke has not yet played a single minute of Football.

Twente has played four Games since his arrival at the club, but he has remained on the bench for all of them. The 24-year-old is once more among the subs for his team’s Europa League opener against Manchester United at Old Trafford this evening.

Despite his lack of minutes, Lagerbielke is content he left Celtic and happy to be playing in Holland.

“I enjoy myself here and I feel like I’ve settled in well,” he said (The Scottish Sun).

“I didn’t get much playing time at Celtic and both me and the club agreed that a loan would be very good for both parties.

“It feels like it’s only a matter of time until I get to play [for Twente], and I’m looking forward to that.

“I’d say I’m at the best place in my career That’s how I feel about my own ability, both physically, tactically, technically, mentally and everything. I feel I am in a very good place.

“In terms of Football, I feel like I’m at the highest level I’ve been at in my life, then I just hope to show that on the pitch soon as well.”

Celtic fans will keep a keen eye on Lagerbielke’s progress at Twente this year.

It never worked out for him during his first year in Glasgow, his only noteworthy moment coming in the UEFA Champions League against Feyenoord.

The centre-half nodded home at the back post to give the Hoops a long-awaited home win in Europe’s premier club comPetition.

He is still contracted in Glasgow until the summer of 2028, so seeing how things pan out when he returns from his loan next summer should be intriguing.
