How to Take The New Music Generation Quiz on Spotify
You might be a proud Gen-Z, but is your music generation Boomer? A new Spotify Music Generation Quiz will figure out which generation of music you really lean towards, even if you don’t want to admit it yourself.
The market-first ‘What’s Your Music Generation?’ in-app experience is an interactive, personalised experience on the popular music platform that analyses its user’s Top 50 listened to tracks across the last 12 months, before letting them know which generation their music taste belong to. The results come in a percentage (for example, 55% Boomer, 45% Gen X) , so your music generation could span a few eras.
Although launched by Spotify Australia and New Zealand as part of their latest brand campaign ‘Connected By Spotify’, the fun little quiz can be accessed in other countries, including Singapore.
Some of Australia’s top iNFLuencers have showed their support for the Music Generation Quiz, including Kat Clark (@katclark), Deja Clark (@more.dejankat), snd Tony Rhee (@thetonyrhee).
The campaign will run from 11 August to 15 September, and the quiz comes hot on the heels of the recently-viral Veggie ID quiz, which tells you which vegetable you are based on your personality. Always useful information to have.
A step-by-step guide on how to take the Spotify Music Generation Quiz
Go to this link: https://open.spotify.com/site/music-age?si=9BL-1cI1Q3ugiZX459k-XQ (if it doesn’t work on your desktop, try your smartphone).
The app will ask you which era you think you belong to. You’ll get to choose between Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X, and Boomer. Think long and hard about the songs you’ve been listening to recently before choosing your answer.
The quiz will go through your playlist before giving you your results. Unlike personality tests which can be rigged (let’s be honest here), Spotify won’t hold back with this one. If you’ve been binging on Britney Spears and Shania Twain the past year, be prepared to be labelled a Millennial.
It’ll also tell you which songs from that generation made the top three most-listened to tracks. Users can share then their results via a simple button.
If your music generation happens to be Boomer, no shame in that; everyone knows some of the best music came from the ’60s and ’70s. Rock on.
