The New York Mets are battling it out with the Los Angeles Dodgers right now for the National League title. The series is currently tied one Game a piece. The two face off for Game 3 in their series at 8pm tonight. On paper, the Dodgers are the better team. They were Number 1 in the National League West while the Mets were number 3 in the National League East. It is a tale of two coasts, but honestly, anything can happen in the post season!

It's actually really funny that the Mets and the Dodgers are facing off right now because without the Dodgers, we wouldn't know the Mets like we do today.

How The New York Mets Got Their Iconic Colors

Founded in 1883, the Dodgers were originally based in Brooklyn, New York, and were known as the Atlantics. The team was known as the Grays, the Bridegrooms, the Superbas, and the Robins before they settled on the name Dodgers in 1932. They remained in Brooklyn, New York, until 1957, after which the club moved to Los Angeles, California, where it continues its History as the Los Angeles Dodgers. The team moved west at the same time as its longtime rival, the New York Giants, moved to San Francisco in northern California as the San Francisco Giants. The New York Giants baseball team began play in 1883 as the New York Gothams and became the Giants in 1885.

The History of the New York Mets began in 1962 when the team was introduced as part of the National League (and MLB)'s first expansion of the 20th century. The Mets took inspiration from all the New York teams before them. Their blue is in honor of the Dodgers while their orange is in honor of the Giants. They also added pinstripes to the home uniforms to honor the crosstown Yankees.
