It was a great showing for the Hoops, cruising to a 5-1 victory, their biggest in the Champions League win.
It was great to be on the other side of that scoreline in Europe’s elite competition for once, with Celtic fans deprived of wins in recent years.
Celtic’s Champions League opponents experienced mixed fortunes during the first matchday of the competition. Here’s a summary of how each team fared:
  1. Borussia Dortmund had a strong start, securing a 3-0 away victory over Club Brugge.
  2. Atalanta held Arsenal to a 0-0 draw at home
  3. RB Leipzig faced a tough match, losing 2-1 to Atletico Madrid away from home.
  4. Dinamo Zagreb suffered a heavy 9-2 defeat at Bayern Munich, a result that led to the sacking of their manager.
  5. Club Brugge were defeated 3-0 by Borussia Dortmund, indicating they might struggle against top-tier competition.
  6. Young Boys were overwhelmed at home, losing 3-0 to Aston Villa.
  7. Aston Villa were on the other side of the scoreline against Youg Boys, finishing off a remarkable journey from the Championship to the Champions League in just five years.

Celtic will fancy their chances of getting a few decent results, but they face two tough away days in the comPetition before returning to Parkhead. The Bhoys will play Games against Dortmund and Atalanta before meeting RB Leipzig in Glasgow.
