Hotelier reveals the two things she will never use in a hotel room
A former hotel manager has told the internet the two things she’ll never do in a hotel room again — and it might stop you from doing it too.
Melissa Hanks is a content creator on social media, using her previous career in hospitality to give advice and tips to people staying in hotels around the world.

In her latest TikTok video, which received 1.4 million views on the platform, she explained the gross reasons why she would never use a coffee machine or the provided shower supplies in hotel rooms.
“As a former hotel manager and an avid coffee drinker, I will not use (the coffee machines) in hotel rooms, and this is why,” she said.
Hanks said that in her time working as a hotelier, she has seen “things other than water” inside the coffee machines.
But she said there was one crucial part of the machine that is never cleaned.
“Even though the housekeeper may rinse it out or wash the outside, that tube right there never gets cleaned,” she said.
If the tube isn’t cleaned, Hanks said the milk curdles inside, meaning you could be drinking old, mouldy milk in your coffee.
The other thing Hanks would never use again is the refillable shampoo and conditioner bottles in the bathrooms of the hotel.
“People can put anything in it. I’ve seen Nair, and god knows what else in there,” she said.
An exception to this would be the shampoo and conditioner that can be locked. Hanks said we should check to see if the containers for the soap, shampoo and conditioner can be locked.
If they can, they are fine to use, Hanks said.
“Now these (the locked and secure ones) I will use,” she said.
“If you look, you have to unlock them to open them and refill them.”
Hotel Horror
Thousands of people took to the comment in shock with Hanks’ revelations.
“New fears unlocked,” one said.
“Oh my gosh, I am so innocent I would have never thought any of that would happen,” another wrote.
“Why did I have to see this while I’m staying in the hotel?” said a third.
Other hotel workers shared similar stories and advice in the comments.
“As a former housekeeping manager at Disney I also NEVER use glass cups in rooms. Also, immediately search for bed bugs before settling in,” one wrote.
“I never trust that the towels are clean. I’m sure they don’t wash the unused towels,” said another.
“I worked in a motel and the maids use same rags for bathroom cleaning, floors, and mirrors as wiping down coffee pots. NEVER use their pots! EVER!!!” urged a third.
“Do not wrap up in the blankets!! They are not washed daily or weekly,” a fourth said.
Hotel workers warned hotel goers on almost every feature of a hotel room, which freaked a lot of people out.
“Got it — so bring coffee pot, coffee grounds, shampoo, conditioner, towels, sheets, a mattress… am I forgetting something?” one person joked.
