5:02 pm ET Saratoga (Race 8) – Shotgun Patsy 10/1 (1-star play)

Race 8 at Saratoga is a 7-furlong Maiden Special Weight for 3-year-old fillies and one who catches my eye is William Mott’s Shotgun Patsy, who should come on a good amount for her debut 5th at Belmont Park.

She is a daughter of the high-class Gun Runner, who was at his best over a mile-plus, so this step up in trip should suit and this filly can go well from stall 2.

5:45 pm ET Saratoga (Race 9) – Big Everest 5/1 (1-star play)

A field of 9 older horses is set to go to post for the Grade 3 Kelso Stakes, in which Annapolis and Casa Creed are to be feared but I like the chances of Christophe Clement’s gelding Big Everest.

He’s a course-and-distance winner who comes into this in red-hot form having won his last 4 starts and I fancy him to take this step up to graded class in his stride.

6:19 pm ET Saratoga (Race 10) – Gold Sweep 3/5 (3-star play)

The penultimate event at Saratoga features some impeccably bred 2-year-old colts who line up for the $175,000 Grade 3 Sanford Stakes. The race has a History of producing some outstanding performers and this year’s running can go to Gold Sweep, who looks very exciting.

Steve Asmussen’s colt was a hugely impressive 9-length winner of the Tremont Stakes at Belmont Park last month and I wouldn’t want to be backing against him.

6:52 pm ET Saratoga (Race 11) – Nickel Nickel 10/1 (1-star play)

Danny Gargan’s Nickel Nickel is bred to go well in his debut as both his sire, Into Mischief and his dam, Ur Dvln Disguise, both won their first races, so it would not be a surprise should he go well in this valuable Maiden Special Weight.

Luis Saez’s mount has been impressing in recent workouts at this course and he represents good value in the finale.
