'Heeramandi’ is my biggest project: Sanjay Leela Bhansali

Sanjay Leela Bhansali, celebrated for his grand cinematic spectacles, is set to make his highly-anticipated OTT debut with 'Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar.' During a recent press conference, as reported by Outlook India, Bhansali shared insights into this ambitious project, deeming it his "biggest" endeavour yet and expressing his excitement about transitioning to the digital space where each episode is crafted as a cinematic masterpiece.

Known for his love of grand-scale filmmaking, Bhansali acknowledged the shift to digital platforms as he spoke about 'Heeramandi,' stating, “I’ve made big films. I enjoy making those big-scale films, and it comes naturally to me. But while shifting to digital, I’ve taken it up a notch. ‘Heeramandi’ is my biggest project; I wanted to make it really special, and I have surprised myself with this one.”

The upcoming series boasts a stellar cast, featuring the likes of Manisha Koirala, Sonakshi Sinha, Aditi Rao Hydari, Richa Chadha, Sanjeeda Sheikh, and Sharmin Segal, promising a visual feast of talent and grace on-screen. Bhansali expressed his eagerness for audiences worldwide to immerse themselves in the magnificence of 'Heeramandi' on Netflix, marking his first collaboration with the OTT giant.

In a nostalgic reunion, Koirala, who starred in Bhansali's debut feature 'Khamoshi: The Musical' in 1996 alongside Salman Khan, shared her excitement about working with the maestro once again, as reported by Indian Express. Describing her journey with Bhansali as "humongous," she praised his growth as an artist and a filMMAker.

“We all have tried to do our best because we working with a master," she shared. "To be working with Sanjay 25 years after his first film, Khamoshi, it can’t get better than that. It’s been a humongous journey, I’ve seen him grow as an artist, as a maestro, as a genius, he is India’s best, he is [one of] the greatest filmmakers in India. We are lucky to be working, sweating and trying to perfect our act. We are dying to show it to everybody.”

The actor shed light on the collective dedication of the team, expressing their eagerness to showcase the opulent offering to the world. The anticipation for Bhansali's foray into the digital realm, coupled with the stellar cast and promises of a visual extravaganza, sets the stage for the project to be a groundbreaking addition to the world of OTT Entertainment.
