Luis Palma Opens Up on ‘Euphoric’ Honduras Experience
Celtic winger Luis Palma has opened up on Honduras’ marquee 2-0 win over Mexico last week, in which he netted both goals.
Coming off the bench with just under half an hour to go, Palma opened the scoring with a smart close-range finish. He then put his nation in the comfort zone on 83 minutes, leading a counter attack before arrowing the ball into the far corner from just outside the box.
Palma’s goals gave his country a comfortable lead going into the second leg of the CONCACAF Nations League quarter-final against the Mexicans in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
The 24-year-old is consistent in his belief that his tough time at Celtic will eventually pass and that he will return to the form he showed in his early days at the club. When speaking about this, Palma couldn’t get away from how he felt after netting twice for Honduras last week, though: “I was happy on a personal level,” he admitted (El Heraldo).
“There was joy for everyone.
“Last month, I spoke with coach Rueda; I was not well physically or mentally, [but] I prepared a lot for these Games. The joy of scoring yesterday, the first one, was euphoric and dedicated to my grandmother, family and wife.”
Although Palma consistently performs for his country, the same cannot be said about his Celtic displays.
The 24-year-old regularly divides opinion among fans with his performances and feels, at times, like a square peg in a round hole.
He will undoubtedly get some opportunities over a gruelling run of fixtures between now and next March, which could be his last chance to save his Parkhead career if it hasn’t already passed.
