As the summer rages on, so too does Celtic’s hunt for a new number one.

Joe Hart’s retirement at the end of last season intensified the need for the Hoops to draft in a stopper, with several names being mentioned so far.

At the minute, Martin Dubravka seems to be the most likely candidate to succeed Hart between the sticks, but the Scottish champions should keep an open mind.

Indeed, a goalkeeper who was linked with a move to the club in January, Vaclav Hladky, is now a free agent.

The 33-year-old just completed a full season with Ipswich Town in the English Championship. Despite playing every single Game as Kieran McKenna’s side got promoted to the Premier League, his contract at Portman Road wasn’t renewed after he and the club couldn’t agree on terms.

Now without a team, Hladky could be a shrewd pickup for the champions.

Two years younger than Dubravka, he is proven in Scotland and was a standout with St. Mirren during his 18 months in Paisley.

The Czech stopper admitted January links to Celtic were nice and good to hear, but it remains to be seen where he will end up this summer. The Hoops could do worse than asking the question.
