Does Brock Purdy get a bonus for winning the Super Bowl? How much money would he get?
Brock Purdy’s rise to prominence in the NFL has been nothing short of spectacular. Mr. Irrelevant in the 2022 draft, the Arizona native has not only gone from third-string to starting quarterback with the San Francisco 49ers in the space of two years, but has played a starring role in leading the team to Super Bowl LVIII, where they will take on the Kansas City Chiefs in Las Vegas.
How much does Purdy earn a season? How does it compare to Mahomes?
As ever, this year’s championship Game has been billed as a battle of the quarterbacks, with Purdy set to go up against Patrick Mahomes, a man who has already won two Super Bowl MVPs on the way to winning two rings with his team.
The Chiefs star has the biggest contract in the league in terms of its overall value, penning a 10-year deal worth $450 million (an average of $45 million per year) in 2020. According to Sportrac, a website that specialises in ranking Football players’ financial values, Purdy earns “just” $934,252 per season, with CBS Sports’ Jonathan Jones reporting the San Francisco franchise can’t give him a new deal until 2025 at the earliest due to NFL rules on player contracts, despite his swift rise to superstardom.
Although far from struggling to pay the bills, Purdy revealed back in October he was sharing an apartment with teammate Nick Zakelj, with whom he was splitting their $3,000 a month rent. A few weeks ago, meanwhile, the Niners quarterback agreed a national partnership with Toyota after it came to light he has driven a Sequoia for a number of years.
New contract and Super Bowl bonus on the way for Niners quarterback
Barring an horrendous streak of bad luck, the Iowa State graduate knows there will be a big, fat playing contract on the table a year or two down the line, while there will be some extra cash coming his way in the more immediate future.
Along with the rest of his teammates, Purdy pocketed around $174,000 after the 49ers reached the NFC Championship Game and will pick up another $164,000 if they emerge victorious at the Super Bowl in Las Vegas on Sunday. The losers, meanwhile, will collect $89,000 each as consolation.
But the easiest money he is likely to make this year was in the Pro Bowl. Selected as the starting quarterback on the NFC roster, Purdy ultimately withdrew because the Niners reached the Super Bowl but was still eligible for the $88,000 winner’s share after the NFC team defeated their AFC counterparts in Florida.
