Bronny James says it has “never” been his dream to play with his father, LeBron
While LeBron James has made his thoughts clear on wanting to play with his son, Bronny isn’t so sure. “I need to be on the floor with my boy,” LeBron told ESPN in January 2023. “I got to be on the floor with Bronny. Either in the same uniform or a matchup against him”.
However, the son in question has had his say on the matter which has been swirling around the NBA-sphere for weeks and months. When asked by journalists whether it was Bronny’s dream to play alongside his father, he responded “no, never”.
What did Bronny James say about playing alongside LeBron?
“My dream has always just been to put my name out” he continued, “to make a name for myself, and get to the NBA, which is everyone’s end goal that’s here. I never thought about just playing with my dad, but of course he’s brought it up a couple of times. But yeah, I don’t think about it much.”
“When I get there, I don’t think it would just be like, me and my dad. I would be happy about getting into the league instead of me thinking about playing with my dad,” Bronny added. “But that’s not my mindset at all. I’m just trying to put in the work and see where it takes me.”
Has Bronny James recovered from his cardiac arrest?
In July of last year, James suffered a cardiac arrest during a USC Trojans practice session, which led to a long spell on the sidelines. Despite the scare, James managed to play 25 games for the Trojans before declaring for the draft, something that required medical clearance for in order to qualify.
“It’s still lingering” he said when asked on his condition. “My parents were a big factor of believing in me and giving me the love and affection that I needed at that time. I still think about everything that could happen but I just love the game so much it just overpowers everything. I was set back but that’s not an excuse. I’ve put in so many years of work and I don’t want anyone to think that because I had this issue that I’m lower than everyone else.”
“It was a tough time for sure but all this work I’ve put in, it’s just really built me into someone that will never give up and it paid off because I put the work into that situation and I’m back to where I want to be.” For now, that’s not with his father, but who knows what might happen in the future?
