Novak Djokovic and Denis Shapovalov meet Friday in the semifinals of the 2021 Tennis Wimbledon.

Novak Djokovic is coming off a straight sets win over Marton Fucsovics that took 29 Games to decide. In the victory, Djokovic won 82 percent of his first serve points and 44 percent of his second serve points. Djokovic won 69 percent of his total service points and converted on four of his 14 break points. Djokovic saved five of his six break points and hit 23 winners in the victory. Djokovic has won his last 15 sets. Djokovic looks to make his third straight grand slam final and his seventh Wimbledon final appearance of his career. Djokovic has won 15 of his last 16 grand slam semifinal matches. Djokovic is 6-3 in Wimbledon semifinal matches. Djokovic has won 12 straight matches on grass court.

Denis Shapovalov is coming off a five sets win over Karen Khachanov that took 48 Games to decide. In the victory, Shapovalov won 86 percent of his first serve points and 50 percent of his second serve points. Shapovalov won 73 percent of his total service points and converted on five of his 19 break points. Shapovalov saved five of his eight break points and hit 59 winners. It’s going to be interesting to see how Shapovalov responds to a three and a half hour victory, the biggest win of his career yet. Shapovalov looks to make his first career grand slam final appearance. Shapovalov has eight career wins over top-10 players, with one of those wins coming this year. Shapovalov has won eight of his last nine matches on grass court.

Djokovic has won six of the seven meetings against Shapovalov, including the most recent match this year in the ATP Cup. Shapovalov’s only win over Djokovic came in the 2019 Boodles Challenge, an exhibition match, which was actually their only meeting on grass. Five of the meetings have been decided in straight sets.

Shapovalov has the raw tools to make this match interesting, especially if he gets free points with his serve. However, this is where experience takes its toll, and it’s hard to believe Shapovalov can pull this off, even if he’s rather fresh. We’ve seen Djokovic thrive on the big stage time and time again, and he only gets knocked off these days by players on his tier. Shapovalov isn’t there yet.

I’ll take Djokovic in straight sets for max betting value.
