Stefanos Tsitsipas and Daniil Medvedev meet in the semifinals of the 2022 Tennis Australian Open.

Stefanos Tsitsipas is coming off a straight sets win over Jannik Sinner that took 27 Games to decide. In the victory, Tsitsipas won 79 percent of his first serve points and 60 percent of his second serve points. Tsitsipas won 73 percent of his total service points and converted on four of his four break points. Tsitsipas got 68 percent of his first serves in play and didn’t face a single break point. Tsitsipas has won seven of his last nine sets. Tsitsipas looks to make his second career grand slam final appearance. Tsitsipas is 1-3 in previous grand slam semifinal matches. Tsitsipas has won six straight matches on hard court.

Daniil Medvedev is coming off a five sets win over Felix Auger-Aliassime that took 57 Games to decide. In the victory, Medvedev won 75 percent of his first serve points and 51 percent of his second serve points. Medvedev has won six of the eight meetings against Tsitsipas, but he lost the most recent match in last years French Open. Each of the last four meetings have been decided in straight sets.

Medvedev should be the favorite, as he’s better on hard court and he had no issues with Tsitsipas in last years Australian Open. However, Medvedev is coming off a marathon match that won’t be easy to recharge from and he wasn’t at his best Maxime Cressy. Simply put, Medvedev has looked beatable his last two times out. Tsitsipas will be fresh after an effortless quarterfinal.

I’ll take a shot with Tsitsipas for the upset.
