The Chicago Cubs will host the Pittsburgh Pirates for their divisional series finale this Thursday from Wrigley Field on MARQ. Chicago used a big sixth inning to win Game two by four, 10-6.

Pirates Betting Preview

Pittsburgh comes in at 34-32 after falling to Chicago. The Pirates came up short once again in Game two, and they’ll look to avoid being swept in division play here. The Pittsburgh offense is scoring 3.95 runs per Game, while batting .249, with a .327 on-base percentage. The pitching staff carries a 4.05 ERA, with a 1.36 WHIP. Bryan Reynolds collected three hits in Game two, he leads the Bucs in batting (.286) and RBI (38). Carlos Santana went deep for the fifth time at Wrigley last night, and he’s up to 32 RBI for the season. Jack Suwinski homered twice in the Game one defeat, and he leads the Pirates in home runs (15), with 35 RBI.

Johan Oviedo (3-5, 4.16 ERA, 53 Ks) will get the start for Pittsburgh. The fourth-year righty pitched well against the Mets last week, only allowing two runs over 6.1 innings, but he was dealt the losing decision after a lack of run support. Oviedo delivered a pair of quality starts during the Pirates’ home stand, and he’ll head to the Windy City with a bit of momentum. Oviedo has allowed no more than one run in four of his six road starts this season.

Cubs Betting Preview

Chicago comes in at 30-37 after defeating Pittsburgh. The Cubs have now won four of their last five, after being swept in Anaheim, and they’ll look to bring the brooms out themselves here against Pittsburgh. The Chicago offense is scoring 4.12 runs per Game, while batting .243, with a .323 on-base percentage. The pitching staff carries a 4.18 ERA, with a 1.28 WHIP. Dansby Swanson has multiple hits in both Games versus the Pirates, and he’s posting splits of .265/6/29. Seizu Suzuki has doubled in three of the last four Games to take the team-lead in batting (.282). Ian Happ has produced six runs in the series with Pittsburgh, and he’s tied with Swanson for the team-lead in RBI at 29.

Marcus Stroman (7-4, 2.42 ERA, 68 Ks) will get the call for Chicago. The ninth-year pitcher put together another solid outing last week in the Bay against the Giants, holding them to two runs in 6.2 innings pitched. The winning decision marked a fifth straight for Stroman, who finds himself in the midst of a career year. Trademark performances against Tampa and his former squad, New York, were followed by successful outings in San Francisco and San Diego, and he’ll aim to keep rolling at Wrigley.

Pittsburgh vs Chicago Trends

Pittsburgh is 33-31 against the spread this season, with a 30-31-3 O/U record. Chicago is 34-31 ATS this year, with a 31-33-1 over/under record.

Corey’s Free Pick

Pittsburgh had two chances to down Chicago, and they now must face the Stro Show here in Game three. There are a lot of good pitchers going on this small Thursday slate, and Marcus Stroman should add to that bunch. Stroman’s been on a charismatic, commanding tear on the mound, and I love leaning on another steady outing from him here at Wrigley. Pittsburgh is pesky so keep that in mind, but let’s comfortably roll with Chicago to complete the sweep with Stroman on the mound here Thursday.
