The move comes amid interest from top clubs such as Bayer Leverkusen, Spurs, and Manchester United, so it’s quite a shock to see him sign for Millwall.

Kelly, who had refused to sign a new deal with Celtic, leading to his exclusion from the first team by Brendan Rodgers, will officially become a Millwall player in 2025.

There must have been no road back for him at Celtic because Millwall is a massive step down.

Kelly, who has been relegated to playing with Celtic’s B team in the Lowland League, had turned down a Celtic offer reportedly worth £5,000 a week.

Following Millwall’s EFL Cup victory over Portsmouth, Harris expressed his excitement about Kelly’s arrival. He said [RecordSport]: “Dan has agreed to join the club. A deal has been agreed and he has signed. He officially joins us in January.

“He is a young player that we think has got huge potential. He is a very good player. When Dan first walks into the building he is not going to be someone that everyone should expect to go straight into the team.

“He is very young but everyone should take heart that they’ve seen Alfie Massey make his debut tonight and it was an outstanding performance. Dan is a box-to-box midfielder, probably an old-fashioned eight, who has great energy. I’d liken him to a young George Saville when he first came into the Football club – breaks into the box and scores goals.

“He has got passion and real aggression to his play.”

Celtic is holding out for around £500,000 plus sell-on bonuses to allow the player to leave this summer which is significantly higher than the £275,000 they will receive in January.
