A Comprehensive Review of ‘Emily in Paris’ Season 4 Part 1
Season 4 of Emily in Paris kicks off in the wake of the explosive revelations from last season’s finale. Emily finds herself in the midst of a personal crisis after the chaotic wedding of Gabriel and Camille, where Camille’s shocking confession about the lingering feeling between Gabriel and Emily upended everything. To make matters even more complicated, Gabriel revealed that Camille is pregnant, leaving Emily to navigate this emotional minefield. How can Season 4 top this drama? Don’t worry – it definitely does, and we’re going to break it down, episode by episode. Here’s our full review.
Reviewing Emily in Paris Season 4 Part 1: Episode-by-episode breakdown (some spoilers ahead)
Episode 1: A hint of Shakespeare
The season opens with a surprising twist, Camille’s younger brother (yes, the one Emily slept with) has turned into a TikTok storyteller, exposing the entire drama of last season online. Revenge best served global, I guess. Meanwhile, Emily‘s life remains as chaotic as ever, juggling her eclectic style (which definitely got better this season), and the never-ending drama of showing up exactly where she needs to be (or not). It appears this season Emily has appeared as Shakespeare’s reincarnated Hamlet – to be or not to be, to interfere or not to interfere, to finally be with Chef Gabriel or go back to British lover Alfie. That is the question.
Emily and Gabriel share a tender cooking moment that screams domestic bliss – but of course this is Emily in Paris, so nothing is ever that simple. The cherry on top? Alfie’s dramatic reappearance at Gabriel’s workplace – cue the suspense!
Episode 2: The Art of Yearning
The season premiere of Emily in Paris Season 4 left viewers on edge with Camille’s sudden disappearance. Episode 2, aptly titled Love on The Run follows the cast as they search for Camille. Mindy and Emily scour social media and eventually suspect Camille is heading out with her secret lover Sofia in Greece. Eventually, Gabriel finds out about Camille’s affair and tensions are heightened. Emily realises Camille is hiding out in Giverny, and while the girls literally have a row, they end up having a heart-to-heart. By the end of the episode, we’re left with Gabriel making peace with Sofia, as he explains he knows what it’s like to fall in love with someone else. *Swoon*
Episode 3: Boats and Masquerades
This episode was a highlight for me. Firstly, Luc living on a houseboat? Definitely very in-character. Luc in a houseboat, hanging up secret Michelin woman’s lingerie? Even better — we love that for you, Luc. Meanwhile, this episode brings us the stunning masquerade ball, where the theme of pretending to be someone else comes into full play. Early in the episode, Emily remarks that the only way things would work out between her and Gabriel is if they were different people. Enter the masquerade – where they can do exactly just that. Emily gets caught in a whirlwind of emotions as Alfie arrives first, determined to win her back with a dance. Just when things seem to be falling into place, Gabriel appears and the atmosphere shifts.
Emily and Gabriel, unable to resist the pull between them, agree to pretend to be someone else for the night – Anna and David. It’s a bittersweet moment, capturing the essence of their complicated relationships and the masks they wear to navigate it. They end up leaving the party – where Alfie sees them – another heartbreak, and Travelling in a carriage. Seems like this masquerade ball is giving Bridgerton a run for its money. The scene is both romantic and heartbreaking, reflecting their ongoing struggle – can they truly be together, or are they destined to play parts in each other’s lives that never fully align?
Episode 4: Sylvie’s Story
Our absolute favourite during the first part of this season is Sylvie. Her backstory takes centre stage and it’s everything we hoped for. In light of everything happening around her, we finally get to see hints of her past and exposing Louis in her own time. This episode offers us a deeper look into her life, and we’re introduced to her iconic mother, whose iNFLuence most definitely explains Sylvie’s signature sass and sharpness. While I absolutely adore her dynamic with Laurent G – who wouldn’t? I can’t help but notice some subtle clues that hint at something unresolved with Antoine. Could there be more to this story? I guess we’ll have to see in part 2.
Episode 5: Michelin Stars and Plot Twists
Episode 5 of Emily in Paris is a whirlwind of revelations and relationship tensions. Camille tries to return the engagement ring she found while unpacking, but Gabriel insists she keeps it, declaring they are still a family. The situation grows more complicated as Sofia becomes incredibly uneasy, sensing unresolved feelings between Camille and Gabriel. Shocker, anyone? Ultimately by the end of the episode, Sofia decides to leave Paris. I guess that didn’t last very long.
Meanwhile, Luc’s scheme to impress Sylvie in hopes of getting a raise, backfires, when Marianne is exposed as a fraud. Honestly, I did not see this one coming. Well done, Em in Paris. The real shocker? Big spoiler: Camille’s not even pregnant. Let me give you a minute to process.
What happens next? Well, now Camille could go live happily ever after with Sofia in Greece. Except, Camille chooses to withhold this truth from Gabriel. You might be wondering why. Now that’s exactly what we’re hoping to find out in the part 2 release of Emily in Paris, which premieres on 12 September.
