Dan Hurley’s Plan For Coaching Bronny James On The Lakers
Dan Hurley emerged early Thursday morning as the preferred frontrunner to take over as the next head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers.
Over the past two years Hurley has run roughshod over the collegiate game, ultimately leading UConn to back-to-back titles.
Now he appears ready to take the next step in his career and jump to the pro ranks.
The Lakers, for their part, seem particularly excited about the idea of Hurley coaching Bronny James – who they are widely expected to select at some point in the 2024 NBA Draft.
“You’re gonna have to grow your young players,” Wojnarowski said.

“The idea of Bronny James in the Lakers; who better, potentially, than Dan Hurley, to be the development coach to lead his growth? [He’s a] coach who’s really dominated the college sport. You talk about Xs and Os acumen, player development… from day one of this Lakers search, it has been Dan Hurley.”
It is tough to argue with Wojnarowski’s assessment of the situation. More importantly, LeBron seems to hold Hurley in very high regard as well.
“He’s so DAMN GOOD!!! Along with his staff,” James wrote on Twitter/X a while back. “Super creative with their O! Love it.”
The big question now is whether Hurley’s wife will sign off on the move. She has made her preference between UConn and the Lakers abundantly clear.
Under Hurley, UConn has gone 141-58 – a .709 mark. In addition, the Huskies won National Championships in both 2023 and 2024.
Clearly Bronny and the rest of the Lakers’ young core could learn a ton from Hurley. Will they the opportunity to, though? An answer one way or the other will emerge in the next few days.
