Could Rodgers Hand a Celtic Debut Next Sunday?
As Celtic prepares for their upcoming Premier Sports Cup match against Hibs, some fans are wondering about whether manager Brendan Rodgers might give goalkeeper Viljami Sinisalo his Celtic debut.
The spotlight is already on Kasper Schmeichel, a seasoned pro brought in this summer as Celtic’s first-choice goalkeeper, who has started the team’s first two league matches. However, the cup Game against Hibs presents an opportunity for potential squad rotation.
Viljami Sinisalo, who joined Celtic this summer, is seen as a long-term asset for the club, having signed a five-year deal. It’s expected that he will take over as number 1 in the coming years.
While cup matches often serve as a testing ground for new signings, the decision to play Sinisalo is complex. Schmeichel is still integrating with the team and establishing relationships with the defence, which could see Rodgers prefer to keep him in goal.
Rodgers may delay Sinisalo’s debut, possibly waiting until the Scottish Cup later in the season. This would allow Schmeichel to fully adapt to his new environment while preparing Sinisalo gradually for future responsibilities.
I dare say in the build-up to the match Rodgers will shed some light on his team selection plans.
