It is no secret that Celtic are in the market for a striker or two this summer; Oh Hyeon-gyu’s recent departure left Kyogo Furuhashi as the only senior recognised centre-forward at the club.

There has been little progress on the Adam Idah front over the past week, and attention soon might turn to other targets. One of those is Tommy Conway.

The Scotland international was linked with the Scottish champions last month. Celtic were said to be planning on waiting until the 21-year-old’s contract with Bristol City runs down to make a move so they can get him on the cheap.

Now, though, it looks like he may leave Ashton Gate this summer. Indeed, Bristol boss Liam Manning recently revealed that Conway has turned down a new contract offer from City and has been banished from training with the first team.

He said (Bristol Live): “Tommy has had a contract offer on the table, which is an excellent offer. This has been turned down, and not negotiated with the player expressing a desire to leave.

“The decision has been made for him to train with the U21s, with the focus wholly on players who are fully committed to what we are trying to achieve.”

With 12 goals in each of his last two seasons, Conway’s potential is coherent.

Celtic will undoubtedly be aware of his situation at Bristol and as Brendan Rodgers’ need for one or two strikers continues, we could see Conway be increasingly mentioned as a potential option.
