Brendan Rodgers Singles Out Unsung Celtic Hero After Bratislava Win
Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has singled out unsung Celtic hero Liam Scales for praise following his Man of the Match display in the Champions League against Slovan Bratislava last night.
The Irishman continues to prove his doubters wrong and churn out impressive performances.
He was key last night, opening the scoring with a bullet header and remaining sound defensively.
Scales’ career turnaround over the past year has been something to behold.
The defender’s Celtic tenure looked all but over, but he was reborn in a 1-0 win at Ibrox last September. The 25-year-old has had some ups and downs since then but has, overall, not looked back.
Boss Rodgers has been central to Scales’ development and last night praised the defender.
Indeed, the gaffer thinks he is underrated at times.
“He [Scales] probably doesn’t get the credit that he deserves,” said Rodgers (Glasgow Times).
“I think with some of our boys, sometimes it’s the way, whether it’s the local guys or whatever. I’ve seen that all my life as a coach.
“The British players, the Irish players, they might not be the stellar name. Everyone’s looking for something else. But these are the guys that stand out.
“They’re absolutely pivotal to what we’re doing. Liam gets a fantastic goal and was really strong. He played very, very well. I’m really pleased for him because he’s been a really consistent performer for us since he’s got on the team.”
Despite the £6m arrival of American centre-back Auston Trusty on transfer deadline day, Scales’ performance levels haven’t dipped this term.
In fact, if anything, the Ireland international has only improved in 2024/25 so far.
Trusty will come into the team at some point, but right now, it would be harsh to drop Scales given how well he is playing.
Man of the Match last night, he is continually proving his doubters wrong Game by Game.
