Clive Tyldesley has spoken about his time commentating for Rangers TV, highlighting a strange unwritten rule at Ibrox.

Tyldesley, known for his commentary on ITV Sport and CBS Sport, provided commentary on the platform during the 2020/21 Scottish Premiership season.

However, he was criticised for his commentary towards Celtic by a number of Rangers supporters, with the veteran commentator receiving a number of emails expressing their discontent.

Tyldesley said: (FourFourTwo),”I had given the score as Celtic this, Celtic that, and I happened to say, ‘The Hoops have now gone three up’. I got so much mail from Rangers fans, all quite sympathetic, but there was an element of warning… One guy said, ‘They are either Celtic, or they are ‘them’.’ So from that point on, Celtic were Celtic – don’t call them something that sounds affectionate!”

For Tyldesley to receive emails for calling Celtic “the Hoops” is laughable at best and highlights a poor attitude towards a commentator who is used to covering all Football teams equally.

There should be no concern about using a term that is widely used, even by those who don’t support Celtic.

This reaction is yet another strange incident across the city at Ibrox, revealing an insecurity from the Rangers faNBAse.
