Brendan Rodgers has spoken pre-match this afternoon about Kyogo Furuhashi’s omission from the squad to face Hibernian at Celtic Park.

The Celtic striker was substituted last weekend against David Gray’s side at Easter Road and misses out today.

Rodgers said: (Premier Sports),”We’ve just given it that little bit of extra rest. I think that he’s dealt really well with it for a number of years; it’s not just during his time at Celtic. He’s had this issue since his time back in Japan.

“So, of course, there are times when he gets a knock on it and doesn’t feel quite right. I felt we didn’t need to risk him in this Game, and he didn’t feel 100% either. So, we’ve taken him out of this match and will see where he’s at at the beginning of the week.”

Kyogo’s injury does not appear to be long-term, according to Rodgers.

It seems to be more about ensuring he can recover fully rather than risking further injury, which is a welcome sign that players are being given time to recover completely.

Although it is interesting to note that Kyogo has had this shoulder issue even before joining Celtic, whether the Japanese striker will require surgery remains to be seen, as he had time to address it during the summer off-season.
