Brendan Rodgers Predicts Explosive Glasgow Derby
Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers previewed the Glasgow derby against Rangers next Saturday, with the Irishman revealing that he believes the stadium will be on fire.
Celtic impressed against Hearts this afternoon, with Kyogo Furuhashi netting two goals and Matt O’Riley adding the third from the penalty spot.
With the prospect of the Glasgow derby next weekend, Rodgers was buoyant ahead of the Game, with Celtic looking to have found their form at the right time of the season.
He said: [BBC Sport], “It’s a huge Game against Rangers, but what really pleased today was in a big a Game, we had big performances and a big contribution from those players. So that really sets us up for next week. The players were very good in their concentration when they had to defend, they defended well.
“I think, looking towards next week, we’ll recover a little bit, analyse, have a really good week’s training. And then it going to be absolutely on fire here next week.”
Rodgers will be aware of the pivotal nature of next weekend’s match in securing the title.
If Rangers can’t defeat Kilmarnock tomorrow, it will give Celtic the chance to clinch the league at Celtic Park in just seven days.
With every Game seen as a cup final, next Saturday’s Glasgow derby will be viewed as a huge opportunity to end the title race and demonstrate that despite some stutters this season, Celtic are still the best team in Scotland.
