The Atlanta Braves will fly out to Phoenix to face the Arizona Diamondbacks for game one of their interleague series this Friday from Chase Field.

Braves Betting Preview

Atlanta moved to 33-23 after dropping two of three to Oakland. The Braves avoided an embarrassing sweep from the A’s, and they now look to close the road trip strong in Phoenix. The Atlanta offense is scoring 3.83 runs per game, while batting .257, with a .337 on-base percentage. The pitching staff carries a 3.55 ERA, with a 1.27 WHIP. Ronald Acuna Jr. collected multiple hits in the lone win over Oakland, and he’s leading Atlanta in BA (.324) and hits (68). Matt Olson has homered in each of the past three series, and he’s first on the team in HR (17) and RBI (42). Sean Murphy has a hit in nine of the last games, and he’s posting nice splits of .286/11/38.

Charlie Morton (5-5, 3.59 ERA, 63 Ks) will take the hill for Atlanta. The veteran pitcher dropped both starts during ATL’s home stand, despite pitching well against Philly last week, tossing nine strikeouts in 5.1 innings pitched. Morton took three losses in May, but he did deliver a scoreless outing in Austin against a strong Texas lineup, so maybe he regroups here in the desert.

Diamondbacks Betting Preview

Arizona moved to 34-23 after sweeping Colorado. The Diamondbacks’ had a great month of May, and they opened June strong by completing a strong four-Game sweep of the Rockies, and they’ll look to flex their muscles here at home this weekend. The Arizona offense is scoring 4.78 runs per Game, while batting .273, with a .332 on-base percentage. The pitching staff carries a 4.84 ERA, with a 1.36 WHIP. Lourdes Gurriel Jr. plated multiple runs in each of his last two Games, and he leads the DBacks in batting (.309), with nine homers and 33 RBI. Corbin Carroll has produced a run in four of the last five Games, and he’s posting splits of .287/9/24. Christian Walker homered in the Game three win over Colorado, and leads the team in HR (12) and RBI (35).

Merrill Kelly (6-3, 3.18 ERA, 46 Ks) will make the road start for Arizona. The fifth-year pitcher put together a strong outing against Boston last week, tying a season-high with ten strikeouts over 6.1 innings of work to earn the victory. The buzz in Phoenix has surrounded Zac Gallen, but Kelly has come along with him after erasing an 0-2 start with a flawless month of May. Kelly has won his last three decisions, and five of his last six appearances have resulted in quality starts.

Atlanta vs Arizona Trends

Atlanta is 22-33 against the spread this season, with a 31-22-3 O/U record. Arizona is 34-23 ATS this year, with a 27-27-3 over/under record.

Corey’s Free Pick

This dark horse playoff preview should generate some back-and-forth action. A pitchers duel would be nice here with Charlie Morton and Merrill Kelly, but I believe in what the Diamondbacks have brewing, and they have a good shot to kick things off with a victory. Arizona has won nine of their last twelve Games, and they won’t roll over lightly here for the powerhouse Braves. Spot the DBacks the runs for safety Friday.
