‘Barcelona rejected PSG’s world record bid for Lamine Yamal’
Andy Bara, Dani Olmo’s agent, has revealed that FC Barcelona, who sit at the top of LaLiga after beating Girona, rejected a €250 million ($270 million) offer for Lamine Yamal from Paris Saint Germain in what would have been a world-record transfer deal.
“I know that Barça rejected a big offer around 250 million euros for Lamine Yamal from PSG”, Bara told Inkubator podcast. Lamine Yamal, who is just 17-years-old, had a breakthrough year at the Catalan club, playing 50 times last season, scoring 7 goals and getting 9 assists in all comPetitions.
The winger also shone at Euro 2024, winning the trophy with Spain and coming up with some crucial moments, including a long-range strike against France in the semi-finals.
Bara also spoke about Dani Olmo, who arrived at Barcelona after the Euros had concluded. It took time for the club, given their precarious financial position, to register the player, with a long-term injury to Andreas Christensen ultimately allowing the player to be formally added to the playing squad.
“We had many offers, of which 3 or 4 were from big clubs”, Bara said. “Dani wanted to go to Barça. We had the feeling that Barça was perfect for him, I insisted a lot to make the signing happen. Dani also wanted to come home.
During the recent transfer window, young centre-back Mikayil Faye left the club and joined Ligue 1 side Rennes: “He left because of the situation with Olmo” Bara revealed, adding that the decision did not come from the player. “He didn’t want to leave and Barça didn’t want to sell him, but the club needed financial fair play. Barça initially wanted to sell Iñigo Martínez, but he didn’t want to leave.”
“Clubs like Rennais, Manchester United, Inter, Lille, Marseille and Frankfurt were interested. Barça wanted Olmo, so they had to sell some players. I used my player (Faye) to help Barça in that situation and I explained everything to him.”
